Hamstring Strains – Long and Strong

With winter sports well and truly underway the rise of soft tissue injuries and in particular hamstring strains are on the up.

Research suggests that
– 40% of strains were classed as weak and short (short in terms of length of fascicle)

Eccentric training (Nordics)
– increased fascicle length
– reduced the re- injury rate by increasing eccentric strength of hamstring

For fascicle length change we only need 1 session per week at 2 sets of 4 reps.
This showed change over a period of 6 weeks
